Want a cat? First thing to do is choose a breed.
After you have chosen a breed think whether you want a kitten or cat. Kittens are more energetic and are more beautiful but they don't last forever and in a couple of years, will turn into a cat. Cats are calmer and are more intelligent than kittens.
The next step, is to choose a cat (or kitten). This is the difficult part. You may want visit your local pet shop or shelter a few times and "interview" your favorite pets. The people there will tell you the best cat foods and litters for your new companion. Once you get your pet, make sure to give it lots of attention by playing, cuddling, and feeding your pet.
If your cat likes to scratch up your furniture as a game, then a scratching post would be good for it. If the scratching post does not work, try luring your cat to it with treats. If it still doesn't work, you might want to get your cat's claws removed.
Your cat, (or kitten), will want toys. A toy can be home-made or store-bought. Most people would recommend home-made toys. For one, they don't cost you anything and for two, they save you time. A home-made toy can be anything from a piece string to a home-made lightwood mouse. If you want to buy a store-bought toy, you can buy one at any pet shop.
